SPORTS & P.E. – Foxdell 2019
Foxdell is one of only five primary / federation schools in the country who participated in the PE pilot specialism.
At Foxdell Junior School, we believe that PE and Sport plays a key role in personal development and that every child should be provided with opportunities to participate in a wide range of sporting and physical instruction. Children are offered a full and balanced programme of Physical Education. By improving opportunities for PE and integrating its delivery through other subjects, we aim to ultimately raise standards in the core subjects by improving fitness and enjoyments.
We are committed to:- 1) The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick starting healthy active lifestyles. 2) The profile of PE and Sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole improvement. 3) Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and Sport. 4) Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils. 5) Increased participation in competitive sport.
To this end, the school has invested in innovative equipment and practice. Within lessons, children will get to experience a diverse range of sports – football, cricket, basketball, gymnastics, hockey, rounders, etc., as well as less familiar games such as tag rugby, fencing and orienteering. Swimming is also included in the Year 3 curriculum. In addition to this, the school has significantly increased extra-curricular opportunities for pupils; has continued to offer external provisions through our partners (e.g. Active Luton, Luton BikeAbility, Luton Tigers, etc); and has put into place additional Intra-Sport, Inter-Sport and in-class tournament fixtures as part of the school sporting calendar.
