All year 1 and year 2 classes took part in an active maths competition.
Instead of the children sitting down to do their maths, their numeracy skills were tested in a fun and engaging way, as they collected cones, and completed star jumps and running ladders.
All the children worked well and did their best to score points for their team.
Reception had an amazing’ Sports Day’ all of the children tried their best and became quite competitive to improve on personal goals. Well done Reception! All of the children and staff would like to thank all of the parents/carers that came to support the event.
Although it was very close, we would like to share the results;
Well done to Swifts and all of the children that took part.
Meet the Play Leaders. These children have worked with a specialist from ‘Active Luton’ and are keen to support children at playtime with group games. They have also played important roles in the Intra competitions and other key events.
In PE last week, we had a visit from a dance teacher from ‘Perform X’.
We were involved in her fantastic workshop where we learnt to dance to hip-hop music.
We had so much fun!!!
Year 1 and year 2 took part in a Multi Skills competition testing their speed , agility and coordination in the sprint, target throw, quoit balance, speed bounce and obstacle activities. Year 2 leaders did a fantastic job explaining, demonstrating and scoring the activities while encouraging everyone to do their best.
Invasion festival October 2017
Eight children attended the festival which was held at Inspire in Luton. All of the children took part in a range of activities, which developed there techniques to play differing sporting events. All of the children had a fantastic time and where a credit to all!
Spring Term 2
Active Education has delivered a fantastic gymnastic programme for the children in KS1 it has focused on: Being physically active, developing and extending agility, balance and coordination and engaging in increasingly challenging competitive and cooperative physical activities.
The Skill Development has delivered a range of activities which have included traveling around space in different ways, teaching shapes pencil, star, straddle, pike, tuck and squat; demonstrating body tension and stillness as well as Jumps, soft landings and rolls.
Health and safety has been at the heart of the programme. Children and Teachers have learnt new safety techniques (when moving and using apparatus and equipment) which has led to a growing confidence in using and utilising the resources confidently.
The teachers and children have enjoyed these sessions-
KS1 " We hope that the successful partnership which has been created with the Active Education Team continues in the future". Karo aged 6 said " We learnt how to move the benches, in a zig zag pattern, so we do not bump into each other". Rukaiyah aged 6 said " I enjoyed moving, stopping and balancing using my arms to stop me falling".
6th & 7th March 2017
'Dan the Skipping man’ visited the school. All of the children from Reception and Key Stage One had the opportunity to participate in games which developed their skipping skills. We hope that this has given the children an alternative way of staying active and that they will use their new skills at home and during lunchtimes. We would also like to thank the parents that were able to join us to watch the show.
Well done to Foxdell Infant School for raising a fantastic sum of £520.06 by wearing red and white sporty clothes for Sport Relief.
Net and Wall Festival
Children from Key stage one recently attended the net and wall festival at the Inspire Sports Village. The children undertook a range of activities with pupils from other Luton Schools. The festival provided an opportunity for the children to participate in new sports and develop new and existing skills. The children excelled at their new sports and enjoyed the morning immensely.
Year 1 Intra Sports competition
Literacy in Action
For our intra-competition, Year One took part in ‘Literacy in Action’. First, the children warmed up by using their bodies to make different letters and discussing which parts of their bodies they had used. The children were then split into four teams before taking part in the various activities. These included racing each other to find the required vowels, rhyming words and graphemes. The children were very animated and thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this competition. We are hoping to use some of these activity ideas in future phonics lessons.
Year 2 Intra Sports competition
Literacy in Action
On Friday 16th January, Year 2 took part in an intra-sports competition. Mrs Alker organised the competition and each class took part.
In their classes, the children worked in four teams and competed against each other to complete Literacy in action activities. They had to listen to statements and decide on words that rhymed with words in the sentences. Then they had to race against each other to pick up the correct letter: A, B or C. They also completed a range of other activities.
The children worked well against each other and enjoyed practising their literacy and PE skills through a competitive event.
